“I’ll just wait until the new year,” said my client.
“Wait, what?!? That’s 3 months away!” I said.
OK, to give you some context, this was an exchange during a coaching session I held a couple of weeks ago, with a veterinarian whom I recently started working with, who is looking to transition into freelance medical writing.
She’s been delaying her transition (“procrastinating”, in her words) and started working with me because she wanted a push to get things moving in the right (any) direction. And because she wanted to get more clear about what basic steps she needs to take to even give her a chance of landing her first project.
And yet, here she was, delaying (procrastinating) again!
We laughed about the exchange, but I reminded her that she could easily set up her freelance business within 90 days, and probably also start marketing herself—even while still working full time.
So, the bottom line was that we discussed the key tasks she needs to accomplish to set herself up for freelance success. I asked her if she was willing to commit to doing this before the start of 2025. And I then gave her 2 key assignments. I asked her:
- To create a list of everything she needs to accomplish to set up her freelance business.
- To identify what she wanted to focus on between then and our next coaching session.
Heck, if Grant Cardone can build a million dollar business from scratch in 90 days, you can absolutely set up your freelance business in that time!
So, what will you commit to doing for your freelance business in this final quarter of 2024?
